NewCity ART 50 Fall 2023

Thank you friends and colleagues for including Luftwerk in this years NewCity Art 50

At the Precipice | Design Museum of Chicago

Responses to the Climate Crisis, July 14 – October 30, 2023

At the Precipice considers the role of physical and emotional reactions in the era of climate disaster. Given the proliferation of dire headlines and a public response that vacillates between denial and fatalism, the exhibition explores the use of color, tactility, material, and data not to avoid or disguise the issues but to instead offer accessible entry points.
Included are works by Selva Aparicio, Morel Doucet, Zaria Forman, Luftwerk, Crochet Coral Reef, Nathalie Miebach, Chris Pappan, Redemptive Plastics, The Tempestry Project, Migwa Nthiga, and Jean Shin

Anything but consistent, far from exact | Book Launch

This event is a discussion between artists Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero of Luftwerk, alongside designers Renata Graw and Lucas Reif of Normal. The two studios will discuss how to capture the spirit of an exhibition in a book, the challenges of adapting immersive experience into a compressed form, and the possibilities opened up by these translations.

Performance

Cellists and interdisciplinary artists Lia Kohl and Katinka Kleijn will create a live, sound-based response to Luftwerk’s Exhibition, Exact Dutch Yellow. Longtime collaborators, their shared practice explores vulnerability and resilience through the cello as an object, a body, and a sound-making tool.
